I am beyond excited to be a part of the Miss America Organization as Miss St. Croix Valley 2018 (Minnesota)! Unlike most systems, the Miss America Organization is a non-profit run heavily by volunteers! As a group, they are VERY focused on giving back to the community and causes through Service, which is represented by one "point" of their crown. They are partnered heavily with Children's Miracle Network, and funds raised go to support that great organization.
The other points of the crown represent Style, Success and Scholarship. They give out very generous scholarships to their titleholders and have helped so many girls make their education more affordable.
The girls in the Miss America system are judged in Talent, Interview, On-Stage Question, Evening Gown and Swimsuit (for Miss age group) or Athletic Wear (for Teen age group). Each girl is expected to have a "platform" that they promote for their year, and they are also expected to raise funds and promote Children's Miracle Network.
For this system, girls start by competing in their local area pageant. Winners go on to compete at state level, and the state winner goes on to nationals.
One thing I really like about the system is that the girls have so many group opportunities to volunteer together, which exposes each of them to important new causes and new ways to volunteer. Plus, working together in the communities are great ways to build strong friendships!
